At Born of Wood, we feel extremely lucky to have Yorkshire as our base. “God’s Own County”, it is an area blessed with so much natural beauty. We’ve been lucky to have our furniture making workshops in both Ilkley and Shipley – each location sitting within a stones throw of the Yorkshire Dales.
It’s an area that transfixes and we can’t help but be inspired by these surroundings.
The Yorkshire Dales includes some of the finest limestone scenery in the UK, from crags and pavements to underground labyrinths of caves.
Stone-built villages sit amongst traditional farming landscapes of field barns, drystone walls and flower-rich hay meadows, and show how the area has been shaped over thousands of years by the people who have lived and worked here.

It is perhaps our beautiful environment that helps us at Born of Wood focus our attention and give us standout in our bespoke furniture creations. We find ourselves naturally drawn to the patterns, colours and contrasts present in nature – and find that these will often find their way into our work both consciously and simply as an unconscious act as the nature on our doorstep inspires us without us even realising.
